Buccal Facial Massage
Gentle Lymphatic Massage
to Support Healing

If you’ve recently had buccal fat removal surgery—or you’re simply looking for a gentle way to reduce swelling in your face—you might have come across the term buccal facial massage (or buccal face massage or even buccal lymphatic facial massage – it gets called a lot of different things). This soothing therapy is becoming increasingly popular because it can help support your body’s natural healing process, reduce swelling, and make you feel more comfortable as you recover.
I specialize in post-surgical and lymphatic care to help your body recover faster and with less discomfort. Buccal facial massage is one of my favorite techniques for helping clients see and feel their results sooner.
What Is Buccal Facial Massage?
The word “buccal” simply means “cheek.” Buccal facial massage is a gentle, specialized technique that helps encourage fluid movement through the face. After surgery, your lymphatic system has to work extra hard to clear out the swelling and remove debris left over from the procedure. This technique helps open up those drainage pathways so that excess fluid can clear more efficiently.
Even though it is commonly done after buccal fat removal, anyone can benefit from this type of facial care. If you’ve had any kind of facial surgery—or even just feel puffy after dental work or a cosmetic treatment—buccal face massage can help you feel more like yourself again.
Why Buccal Face Massage Is Helpful After Surgery
Buccal fat removal can leave the face puffy, tight, and tender. This is completely normal, but it can feel frustrating when you’re eager to see your new, sculpted look. Facial swelling also tends to linger longer than swelling in other parts of the body, often taking two months, and sometimes up to three months, to fully resolve.
Buccal face massage helps speed things along by gently moving excess fluid away from the surgical area, reducing puffiness, and improving overall comfort. Many clients notice their face feels lighter and softer after just one or two sessions.
When You Can Start
You don’t have to wait for a certain number of days after surgery to book your first appointment. As soon as you feel ready to come in, I can start helping you. I always adjust my technique to match where you are in your healing process so everything is safe and comfortable.
Some people like to start very soon after surgery to get swelling under control right away, while others prefer to wait until their face feels less tender. There is no wrong choice—my job is to meet you where you are in your recovery.
What to Expect During Your Session
Buccal facial massage is very gentle. I use light, precise strokes to stimulate lymphatic flow, helping your body clear away swelling and surgical debris. This gives your tissues the support they need to recover efficiently.
Most people find the session relaxing, and many notice a visible change in their face afterward—less puffiness, a softer feel, and a more defined look.
How Many Sessions Are Recommended
Because facial swelling can take two to three months to completely resolve, a series of sessions often provides the best results. I may recommend coming in more frequently at first (2-3 times per week), then tapering off as your swelling goes down (1 time per week). Some clients continue with occasional sessions even after they’ve healed fully because they enjoy how refreshed their face feels.
Benefits Beyond Swelling Reduction
While buccal face massage is excellent for reducing post-surgical swelling, many clients also report that their face feels more comfortable, they look less tired, and they feel more confident seeing their results sooner. Supporting your body’s healing process not only speeds recovery but can make the entire post-surgical experience less stressful.
