What to Do When You Can’t Get
a Lymphatic Massage After Plastic Surgery
What Have I Done
to My Body?!?
You are likely reading this and wondering if your body ever will
look and feel normal again.
Don’t panic. Everyone goes through this.
It is very hard to see your body after surgery.
You got the surgery to look better, but you came out looking worse.
It’s OK. Really.
You probably have some good sized bruises and you are stiff and sore from the post-operative swelling. This is normal and is part of the healing process.
Moreover, your surgeon probably didn’t seem worried when you asked about all the swelling and possibly appeared to be dismissive when you told them how your body looked somehow deformed.
In most cases, your surgeon wasn’t ignoring you. They know that most people’s swelling is normal and expected and that it will go down in time.
The reality from a surgeon’s point of view is that they care, but their time is limited. So, if they don’t see anything that appears out of the ordinary, they aren’t going to say much. They often need to move on to the next patient who may have an actual abnormal issue. Believe me, when they make a mistake, it keeps them up at night. They are human and they want to do right by their patients. So, if you feel “dismissed,” you are probably doing ok.
There is also a good chance you were not warned about genital swelling post-op (yes, it’s normal – and here’s how to get rid of it at home with lymphatic massage).
The good news is that the swelling and mis-shapen appearance is normal right after surgery, so don’t worry. (I know. I know. Easier said than done.)
The great news is that you can speed up your healing time significantly and start to see your results much sooner with Lymphatic Massage. Additionally, since my sessions last for an hour, we have plenty of time to discuss your questions. Most questions I get are the same, and most people are having a perfectly normal recovery. Once in a while, I do see something out of the ordinary. In cases like that, I will let you know and refer you back to your surgeon or to a local medical professional for further evaluation.

QUESTIONS I OFTEN GET ABOUT LYMPHATIC MASSAGE POST OP
A question that I often get from new plastic surgery recovery clients coming for lymphatic massage is whether or not they can still get massages if their holes have closed. This is a VERY important topic, and one that is critical to your health and safety. Here’s a great article about why you can still get an effective lymphatic massage after your holes have closed up after lipo – and why that doesn’t matter.
Another common question is how often someone should get a lymphatic massage after plastic surgery. Here’s an article about when you should schedule your massages after plastic surgery, and how many you need.
