Why Choose Me for
Your Lymphatic Massage Therapy?

Who Am I?

Shannon Goins-Blair - Certified Lymphedema Therapist, Certified Cupping Therapist

Hi!  I’m Shannon Goins-Blair and I am a LANA Certified Lymphedema Therapist and Certified Cupping Therapist who has developed a practice around Plastic Surgery Recovery and Detox.

I see many people who have pain and swelling for reasons other than plastic surgery recovery (Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Lymphedema, injury, etc.), but most of my work is with people recovering from plastic surgery or who are seeking a lymphatic detox massage.

I am the only person with advanced training in Lymphatic Therapy in Albuquerque who specializes in plastic surgery recovery and post-operative care.

If you have had surgery of any kind and want to heal as fast as possible, then Book an Appointment with Me today.

Since I work on people every day who have just had surgery, I can help to answer many questions about what is normal in the healing process.  For example, most people wonder if the pains they have after surgery or the lumpy tissue will ever go away.

I can answer those questions, help resolve the pain, and I can serve as a second set of eyes to watch over your healing.  I can tell you if something requires a doctor’s attention.

Customized Therapy

Specific to Your Needs

At Pain & Swelling Solutions of Albuquerque all sessions are customized to your needs.  I offer a number of different types of therapy, and I take time to get to know your issues and tailor your session to your specific issue.

So while you might sign up for Lymphatic Massage, you may also want to try out the healing benefits of Cupping, Scar Release, or Gua Sha.  Not a problem.  I can work that into your session so that you come out feeling 110% better.

Lymphatic Massage after Plastic Surgery Albuquerque

Just knowing how to do Lymphatic Massage does not qualify a person to work with people after plastic surgery.  There is so much more to know:
  1. What was done in the surgery?  Meaning what tissues were affected, what lymphatic pathways were interrupted that lead to more swelling, how should the fluid be moved in the body based on those factors, etc.
  2. Compression Training.  Compression with your faja or other post-operative garment is crucial to healing.  My training as a LANA Certified Lymphedema Therapist includes specific training in compression therapy for fluid reduction.
  3. Specialized training in post-operative care.  Massage therapists without specific training in post-operative care should wait a minimum of 6-8 weeks before they work on you.
  4. Training in infection control.  Believe it or not, this is not typical training for a massage therapist.  If you are coming in with an open wound, you want someone who knows how to work around it safely.
  5. Understanding the goals you are trying to reach with your surgery, and being able to help get you there.  The world of plastic surgery is unknown to most massage therapists.  What motivates someone to have the surgery?  What does an ideal body look like when the healing process is over?  What are the necessary steps a person needs to take to get to that goal?  I can help you get there.
  6. Knowing when a person can do certain things after plastic surgery.  I can help guide you through the process.  When do you start wearing your Stage 2 faja?  When can you exercise?  When can you have a glass of alcohol?  When can you resume a normal schedule?  I can walk you through these milestones.

LANA Certified Therapist

Continuing Education

The designation of LANA certification is a distinguishing credential that indicates that a Certified Lymphedema Therapist:
     1) Has been trained by a reputable Lymphedema certification school
     2) Has decided to specialize in Lymphedema therapy
     3) Has met strict educational guidelines to qualify to sit for an exam
     4) Has passed the rigorous LANA certification examination
     5) Assures patient care by following scientifically-based, proven therapies

1000+ Hours of Additional Advanced Training

Continuing Education

I believe that it is my duty to serve others better by continuously improving my level of knowledge through continuing education and attending conferences – especially in the discipline of lymphatic therapy.

Many therapists only go so far as to get the required training for licensure (650 hours in New Mexico) and then attend a couple of classes every couple of years to meet the State’s continuing education requirements for massage therapists.  New Mexico only requires a paltry 16 hours every two years in continued education.  That is an incredibly minimal amount of learning.

Continued learning is of the essence to me.  With over 1600 hours of total education I have about 1,000 extra hours in continuing education above and beyond what is required for licensure.  (Click here to see my training certifications.)

I am certified in everything from myofascial massage to scar therapy to cupping.  When you come to me you are getting the highest quality treatment from a well-informed, highly-trained therapist.

Get the full 60 minutes you pay for - massage Albuquerque

Many therapists book clients one right after the other with little time in between sessions.  Usually what that means to you is that when you pay for what is labeled an “hour session,” you only end up getting 50-55 minutes instead of the full 60 minutes you expected.  Instead of you receiving that 10 minutes or so that is chopped off of your hour, your therapist is using it to change the sheets and prep for the next person – and try to take a restroom break.

Independent therapists make their own schedules and are not dictated to by big corporations.  Because of this I can make sure my clients get the full 60 minutes when they book an hour session.

With me you are a person with issues to be solved, and you get a proper evaluation and assessment.  You are not just whoever happened to book the 2:00 PM appointment slot.
